An Opportunity for Every Student to Learn to Read

There is no equзtƭ loơic fãзrnêsс ėqуƤlîtƭ

learning to read English.

The children who have fallen the furthest behind need more opportunity to succeed. They are from our poorest communities, typically black or Latinx, attend schools with less funding, live in communities with fewer resources, and were born to parents who likely had to face these same challenges in their youth. The painful paradox is that these are the exact children who must learn faster than their high performing peers if we are to close the literacy gap and reach high levels of reading proficiency. That’s why we need TIPS™.

PROGRESS FOR ALL

TIPS™ has proven effective in improving early literacy for all types of students in a wide range of demographic and economic profiles. We make reading easier for all.

ENGAGED FAMILIES

TIPS™ can be easily learned by adults with low literacy skills. This makes our program unique in its ability to engage parents in the learning process.

COST EFFECTIVE

The solutions that work, such as increased tutoring and small group instruction, are extremely costly to scale. TIPS™ can be rolled out easily, quickly and at low cost.

Failure of Language

English is a key driver of systemic inequity in the US

The complexity of English widens the Opportunity Gap for the already disadvantaged. That’s not an opinion, it’s science.

English spelling is based on the idea and the historical origin of a word, not how that word sounds. This helps high performing readers at the expense of low performing readers.

Emotional Learning

TIPS™ builds confidence through repeated success

When words can be easily decoded, students attack reading without fear. With TIPS™, students quickly come to understand that there are no tricks. They know they can be successful and engage with the text every time. They have the tools they need to succeed in reading.

In short, they finally have the opportunity to be successful. This success builds in a clear progression from early letter-sound knowledge through efficient word reading and oral reading fluency.

High Potential

We need a reading revolution to close the opportunity gap

Existing systems have failed to meet the needs of our time. The achievement gap persists, despite the hard work of incredible people throughout the education system trying to make a difference. The question is why haven’t we improved?

The answer is English itself. We have done the best we can to teach this very hard thing to students who have had the least opportunity for success. English is, simply, too hard to learn for most kids in the US.

With TIPS™, English is made easy. So easy, a child can read it. Every child.

TEACHER TALK

My kids are very disadvantaged, we normally can’t do very much. But with TIPS it is so different. It was easy for me to use and now I see so much progress. It’s just amazing.

Rapid Progress Reading with TIPS™

In the Fall of 2020, pilot data was collected from our early adopters. The results point to the clear potential of TIPS™ as a transformational alternative to traditional reading intervention strategies:

  • Study Overview: 6 weeks intervention, 7 teachers, 36 students. Mix of digital and in-person settings.
  • 21% of students experienced “light-speed” performance gains.
  • Students showed significant improvement across every aspect of early literacy development measured.
  • Assessments demonstrated immediate transfer to “regular” reading.
  • Bottom quartile performers improved dramatically. With TIPS™, no child is left behind.
